i’ve seen this question a few times today.

people have said “why are we only standing up for gays? everybody gets bullied for something!!!”

and while that may be true, 

nobody is raising millions of dollars to keep fat people from getting married to each other. it doesn’t take a court order for a short person to have access to their dying partner at the hospital. you don’t have to hide your crooked teeth to join the military. nobody is teaching their kids to think God hates freckles.

america is always defined by the people who want to move us forward. from independence, to the abolition of slavery, to the right to vote for more than just white men, to the ending of segregation. and there have always been 3 types of people in this country: the ones who fight to move us forward, the ones who fight to keep us where we are, and the people who think they’re doing nothing wrong by simply doing nothing.

its time for every person out there to acknowledge that by not standing up, even in the most minuscule way possible, you’ve cast your lot.
